Derfwad Book Giveaway!

Updated 5/5: The winner of Kicks Like a Girl is  Ilyanna. Congrats you! Send Mrs. G. you're address and she'll order it to be sent to you pronto. Thanks to all who threw their name in the hat. We hope it becomes a best seller, Melissa!

Our very own Melissa Westemeier (Green Girl in Wisconsin) has written her third book, Kicks Like a Girl. A former high school English teacher-turned SAHM, Melissa blogs about environmental issues (Eco Women: Protectors of the Planet), and her adventures raising 3 boys and a ton of fresh produce on her family’s 60-acre homestead in Northeastern Wisconsin. Her current projects include a trilogy about a river town in Wisconsin, earning her 3rd degree black belt in karate and figuring out what to make for dinner tonight. Mrs. G. met Melissa during the Derf Road Trip and she is a very cool woman, strong and fierce.

Gretchen Benton is the maid of honor at her best friend's wedding when she gets drunk, says exactly the wrong thing and feels alone in the midst of all the couples. She can't avoid weddings--she's a florist. She also can't avoid the thugs who break into her shop and assault her the following night. To combat her fear after her attack, Gretchen enrolls in karate classes at a local dojo. Soon she's caught between her handsome martial arts instructor and the cute cop assigned to her case. As she begins mastering the basics of karate (while sweating enough to make her mascara run), Gretchen learns that kicking like a girl doesn't imply weakness, it means striking hard and striking with style.

Mrs. G. loves the sparkle and humor in Kicks Like a Girl. She read it in two nights. The main character, Gretchen, is Mrs. G's kind of woman.

If you would like your own brand new copy of Kicks Like a Girl by Melissa Westemeier, just leave a comment and that's it. Comments close Sunday night, May 4th @ 12am EST. Mrs. G. will announce the winner on Monday and ship it out the same day. She is happy to ship international. Good luck and happy reading.

Now, thanks to Gary Rith of Gary Rith Pottery we have one more 2012 giveaway!

Everybody here knows Gary, and Mrs. G. is lucky to have some of his cheeky, whimsical work. She has one of his teapots on her kitchen windowsill so she can enjoy it daily. Here's your chance to have some of Gary's work in your home.

The Missus, Gary and Mrs. G. during Mrs. G's Road Trip

Gary is offering one of his bowls to one of the many crazy cat ladies around here!

Spike and Penny

Gary describes it as a nice medium sized blue bowl with hand painted cats on it, about 7+ inches in diameter at the top and 4+ inches tall. I threw the bowl on the wheel then glazed inside blue and painted the cats (like my cat Spike!) outside and then covered it with clear glaze, fired to 2200 degrees. maybe the cutest cat bowl EVER! OK in microwave and dishwasher.

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment. That's it. Comments will close December 29th at midnight and Mrs. G. will announce the winner on December 30th. Please be sure to leave your email so she can get in touch with you.

Molly Murphy Adams Shares the Love: Another Giveaway

Wow, you creative derfs are really generous this holiday season. Be sure and scroll down. There are three giveaways still in play!

Molly is a longtime reader and a stunning artist. Mrs. G. feels honored to host a giveaway of her work. And a wee bit of shame, particularly since Molly won one of the feeble scarves Mrs. G. made and gave away years ago before she came to accept the concept counting stitches was a legitimate requirement of knitting and that she needed to bail on any attempt at the domestic or, really, any arts.

You will like these...

Item 1:  Rosette Bracelet with Shell Spacers, silver tone toggle. Measures 8.5 inches long, 8 inches with clasp closed. Fits medium to large wrist. If it is to small Molly will gladly upsize.

Item 2: Vintage button earrings, Black plastic buttons with circles of beadwork in blue, purple, yellow and orange on red microsuede. Gunmetal tone Wires.

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment as to whether you would prefer the bracelet or the earrings. That's it. Please be sure to include your email. Mrs. G. will close comments Monday, December 24th at midnight and anounce the the winners December 26th. If you don't win, you can check out Molly's etsy shop NativeCouture to see other items she has for sell. Good luck!

Molly Murphy Adams is originally from Missoula, MT. A mixed blood descendent of the Oglala, Lakota tribe, Murphy Adams was raised in western Montana and earned a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from The University of Montana in 2004. Molly learned beadwork at a very early age as well as hide tanning, sewing and traditional clothing design. Molly's jewelry design stems from a combination of traditional Native arts and modern fashion and culture.

What?! Another Giveaway from Derf Jennie, Jewelry Maker Extraordinaire

The amazingly talented Jennie Lorette Keatts of JLK Jewelry has offered up a pair of her stunning handmade earrings to one lucky reader. The earrings are made of sterling silver, 14k gold and peachbloom pottery.

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment. Please be sure to include your email, so we can get in touch with you. Due to the holidays,  Jennie can't ship them out until January. Trust Mrs. G, they are worth waiting for! Comments will close Sunday, December 24th at midnight. The winner will be anounced on December 26th. Good luck!

Be sure and check out Jennie's other work.

Like these...

Jennie Lorette Keatts was raised in New Hampshire, and graduated with a BA from the University of Colorado. She lived in Colorado until July 1999 working and traveling in the international tourism and hotel industry. In 1996 she took a basic jewelry making class and began to do some very simple pieces using pottery and glaze drips for the shop at Jugtown Pottery, owned by her sister Pam Owens and husband Vernon. She also began to collect beads and to make necklaces designed exclusively for Jugtown Pottery using handmade pottery miniatures and beads created by Pam. As life in the tourism industry grew more stressful and unfulfilling, she decided to give it up and move to Jugtown to pursue her dream of jewelry making. In July 1999 she quit her job and moved to the very creative and serene environment of Jugtown Pottery in Seagrove, NC, to pursue her dream of designing jewelry at Jugtown Pottery. She lives within walking distance of Jugtown with her husband Wes, their dog and three cats! And she has never looked back!

COMMENTS CLOSED/A Springy Surprise Saturday Giveaway!

Updated March 12, 2012: The Other Laura's number came up. Thank you to all who commented and joined DM's Facebook Page.

A friend gifted Mrs. G. with this light, lovely, new, still wrapped in fancy paper and ribbon King-Size Pottery Barn duvet cover to offer in a giveaway. She was tempted to keep it, but Mrs. G. doesn't have a king-size bed or comforter. The giveaway only includes the duvet cover, no shams or that fancy ass bed.

The pattern is called Butterfly Script.

Here are the deets:

Carefully created by our in-house artist and printed with precise attention to detail, our bedding’s richly patterned butterflies and script letters evoke the hand-drawn look of vintage botanical illustrations.
  • Woven of pure cotton interwoven with 5% organic cotton fibers.
  • Duvet cover reverses to self.
  • Duvet cover has a button closure
  • Duvet cover, sham and insert sold separately.
  • Machine wash.
  • Imported.

In order to enter the giveaway, you need to do thing two things:

1) If you haven't already, just "like" the Derfwad Manor Facebook page which you can find here.

2) If you are already a DM Facebook fan, leave a comment so I know you want to enter for the win.

For those of you loyal readers who don't do Facebook, Mrs. G. apologizes you won't be eligible for this giveaway. But, derfs, Mrs. G. is trying to keep this blog afloat without advertising, and FB numbers (good or bad) mean power. She needs this blog to keep herself off the streets. It's hard out there for a middle-aged, overweight street prostitute. She'll catch you non Facebookers on the next giveaway.

Although she has no moral qualms if your pet, partner or evil twin chooses to like the page either. She currently has three feline fans.

Mrs. G. will close comments Monday around midnightish. She will announce the winner Tuesday morning and message him/her on Facebook. Good Luck!

Full Disclosure: This is not a sponsored post. Mrs. G. doesn't do sponsored posts...only because she has never been asked to do a sponsored post, which she assumes is because of her questionable morals and suburban fantasies.
