Let's Finish This Up And Then Start For Real

It's time check in as to whether you achieved your goals and/or face your fear?  I, for instance, got my yearly physical and mammogram. I even had a teeth cleaning because I was on a roll. I've been feeling some fairly strong momentum.

So in order to keep this momentum going, I would like a solely focus on my heath for several months, and I need solidarity and accountability. Are any of you interested in getting onboard the health train if I fix up a private blog--we need the privacy so we can be vulnerable and honest and release some of the things that might be holding us back. We need to post pictures of our good and bad days. We can support each other, applaud each other, cry with each other and, most important, laugh with each other in a safe space.

We can all do our own program but use this spot to connect with a friend rather than a coconut cream pie

If you're interested, leave a comment and I will send you and an invitation to join. I will need your email address.  This doesn't effect Derfwad Manor, it will go on. But don't join if you don't have weight to lose or we'll have to eat you.

Wanna play?  I do. I need to lose sixty pounds. My current weight is 211. I need to take some steps to ease joint pain and keep diabetes at  bay.  Nobody else is going to do it for me.

I'm in too.75 lbs need to go and I have not had an ob/gyn checkup because I know what will be said. Time for a new approach, new Dr. and a healthier me. I have bad knees to begin with and this isn't helping.

June 8, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterbramble

I'm game. I've been chipping away slowly at this so far this year. S-l-o-w-l-y.

Me me me.

June 8, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBecca

Count me in. 50 fewer pounds would make me happy.

June 8, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNacCrackHouse

I lost 85 lbs since 2010. Some is creeping back up. I'd like to lose between 12 and 18 lbs. Frankly, maintenance is almost harder than weight loss itself.

For achieving my goals: somewhat. I did finish the afghan (and started another!), and I cleaned out my refrigerator. I did not, however, get to my bottom cabinets.

I did get a lot of other things accomplished. I would be interested in joining - I have been keeping very active lately and thought that would help with my weight loss. I got on the scale this weekend and it hasn't helped as much as I thought it should.

Oh is this timely or what?! I am your twin dear lady ... In body weight, desire to do something about it and reason why (pre diabetic status) but what you don't know are the particulars of which I will try to sum up tomorrow because to me they are quite mind blowing! I start tomorrow morning not a diet buy a nutritionist guided 14 day meal plan the likes of which I've not tried before in my 30 odd years of manipulating my weight. It's one helluva short story and I will bang it out on the laptop tomorrow! Keep me posted I'm in!

Can I offer some encouragement? First of all, the word "diet" is not in my vocabulary. It sets you up for failure, guilt and horrid things. Instead, try these two simple things:
- Start walking. Walk an hour a day as fast as you can. It doesn't matter how fast that is in the beginning. You will get faster as time goes by. Here's the kicker: always walk with two hand weights. Target, Academy, etc. have cheap ones that range between 3-5 pounds. It truly makes a difference.
- Instead of choosing a commercial diet plan or a fad, cook from the recipes on cooking They all taste great and you will never feel like you are giving up any particular food group. They are nutritionally balanced and you can be as basic or fancy as you like.
I would love to know how the group is doing as this moves forward. All of us need to be encouraged to be healthier - I know I do! Now to make the dreaded dr. appointment that I have been avoiding...

June 8, 2014 | Unregistered Commentercardinal

Count me in. I'd like to lose 40, but more importantly get my blood sugars down another .5 percent.

June 8, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterIlyanna

This sounds like just what I need. I lost some weight about a year ago, mostly by eating right. I was pre-diabetic and improved my numbers across the board. About a year ago, I unexpectedly retired from my job and have more time to eat and am now at my heaviest at, 218 lbs. I have everything I need to get in shape, places to walk, a gym (that I have yet to do more than walk on the tread mill), and time to do it, but I just can't get myself going. I would love to be part of your group.

June 8, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLeeAnn

I'll do it. I still have 10-15lbs left to shake, and I DID recently post on my blog that I would run a half marathon, so I kind of need to do that, too.

June 8, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDawn

Yes, I need to get healthy both in body and spirit.

Yes please add me! Just yesterday I started a very low calorie diet in order to try and shift some weight. I am desperate and I need to lose about 25 kilos (not sure how many pounds that is - a lot!). I turned 50 this year and getting fit and healthy is important.

Given that the quick result summary of my arthroscopy (given while I was still coming around form the most godsawful anaesthetic ever) was I am old and fat, I probably should take up your offer. I'm in!

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAshley

I'll give it a go. I've gone back to work and make sure to pack my own food, but I need to get this under control. I look at the readily available vending machine and think about why I should never put one nickel in there.

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermeredith@whynot

I need this. Recently diagnosed with diabetes and other problems so losing weight has become a priority. As long as it's going to be private, count me in!

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterPeepsaloola

Very timely for me also.......lost 60 pounds in has almost creeped back. I have every excuse in the book, but I will be pre-diabetic....the GERD is back and my joints ache so bad I could cry. Count me in!!!!!

Please count me in. I'm turning 62 next month, and since I'm unofficially retired (I'm a freelancer, so it's a bit different), I'm feeling stuck: overweight and too attached to the computer and TV. I too have been avoiding doctor appts.

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSylvia

I'm in - 7 days no smoking and one morning exercise session in the latest new page turned over

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHerImperialMajesty

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSandi

Yes please! I'm seriously considering finally kicking sugar to the curb, and yes, accountability is key.

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCaro

I want to be included too please!

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLizzie

Previous Goals: not met. Not only did I not get a second walk in ever, there were several times I didn't get one walk. Poor doggy. I did manage to get to bed before midnight a couple of times.

I forget just how crazy the end of the school year is.

I have so many projects for the summer. I've been writing them down so I don't forget. And then trying to prioritize.

One project is to lose weight so count me in.

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterkellyg

Yep - let's do it!! I need to lose 10-15 pounds, and Jack the dog will be very happy if I up his daily distance. I also need to get that mammogram, and I need to start physical therapy for my bum knee.

Do we have to stop drinking, or can we just taper down? cheers!

I'm on board. I did achieve the goal I mentioned but I have lots of others. I try to walk for an hour every morning even though walking for me requires the use of a cane. I see diet is the focus of many of the comments. While I could no doubt benefit from losing a few pounds, weight is not my main issue. I'm all for encouraging my fellow derfs whatever their goals though.

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDarla

Just this AM I was thinking how much I need to do this and how little I want to do it. Makes sense, yes? I can't say I am excited about the prospect, but trying alongside women who understand can't hurt. As always, thanks to you for this opportunity. You play a rather large part in the thread of sanity I am holding onto. That's a compliment, by the way. Nothing scary. Although I have been heard to mutter, "step away from Sue, do not touch Sue," so on and so forth.

June 9, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteranother sue

Count me in. I need to drop 30 lbs. My husband just lost 40 lbs. by going on a low carb no sugar diet. He was diagnosed diabetic in Dec. and didn't want to go on meds. So far he is doing good. I have only lost 10 lbs. I cheat. Not so much craving starchy foods jut SUGAR. I love my sweets. I need help! I really love you all!!
