Happy trails, Mrs. G. I will be thinking of you during your drive.

BTW - the woman in the yellow in the middle could very well be my great grandma. Not even kidding a little bit. So weird!

Is there North Dakota??* Or is there just South Dakota/Canada? Derf Information, please!

*A hilarious Cincinnati newspaper, Bob Brumfield (RIP, Bob) wrote an article years ago positing that there really is no North Dakota. Because - do you, personally, know anyone from ND? Does anyone you know, know someone from ND? And so forth. He concluded that it wasn't really there but the government didn't want to admit a mistake on so many maps, so they swore to uphold the fiction.

But Derfs will now know for sure.

*And apologies in advance to ND Derfs. I'll bet you're Up There!

Go, Mrs. G, Go! Wish I were in one of those states - I'd be all out on that highway with a giant sign saying STOP HERE!

If you can't find any ND/Montana peeps, I vote you drive extra hard back to Idaho and sleep here before the last leg. Your little buddies miss you.

I know there is a North Dakota because I drove through it back in 1988 or so.

Otherwise, it seems sensible to speculate about its existence.

I am in London in the cold and blowing horrible rain. Whoever doesn't believe in climate change should come here, now, and see!!!

Mrs. G,

I am here! And very much looking forward to meeting you in Billings! I can work on finding us a place to meet. If it ends up just being you and me, we could play it a little more by ear....

The Billings to Spokane drive is a beautiful one. I drove it last summer.
I can hardly wait to see you! I know you must be positively GLOWING by now!

I have a friend who swears that he spent years in North Dakota as a child while his dad did relief work on a reservation. My personal geographic belief is that it does not rain in the Pacific Northwest nearly as much as the residents lead us to believe. Been there three times. Different times of year. The sun shone the whole time. The myth is perpetuated to stop us from all moving there.

If you can't find any ND Derfs, this SD Derf would love to have you! Why would you go to ND when you could come to the Black Hills anyway? We have Mt. Rushmore too!

North Dakota DOES exist, I spent four years in college there (UND-they will always be the Fighting Sioux to me) and another two years working in Fargo (a real town, not just a fictional movie town). But I will be seeing you in Minnesota, since I determined I could not live more than a couple of years in ND. Pizza party Friday night!
