1) Did you every write anyone fan mail when you were a kid? If so, who?

I'm sure I wrote more than one. The one that comes to mind is Gregory Frost, a science fiction writer. He wrote back. I still have the letter.

2) What was the first R rated movie you ever saw?

You know, I can't remember.

3) Current guilty pleasure?

None. I don't feel guilty about any of my pleasures. I revel in them.

4) Favorite film character (not actor, character)?

Luke Skywalker. I had SUCH a crush on him. Still do, to tell the truth :).

5) If you have children, what is your favorite book you've read to them out loud?

No kids. But the husband and I took turns reading Anthony Bourdain's "A Cook's Tour" out loud to each other. Don't read that one to the kids.

6) Worst book you were forced to read in school?

Treasure Island. I hated it then, I hate it now, and I always will. What a wretched, awful book.

7) What three things can always be found in your fridge?

Heavy cream. A tub of spreadable butter. And a bottle of some kind of salad dressing.

8) What time is bed time?

Between 12midnight and 1am. Trying to keep it more towards midnight, but you know....

9) What was the name of your first pet?

Tabby. She was a cat. I don't remember her well since she died when I was 4.

10) Do you give in easily?

No.

11) Is there a color you don't feel comfortable wearing?

Not just one, there are a number of them. Yellow, orange, anything with orange undertones, olive green, mustard, true khaki....anything too warm toned makes me look like I'm coming down with the flu. I don't mind because I don't like yellow or orange anyway.

12) What is the oldest item you own?

Sadly, my family doesn't have any heirlooms of the kind you'd see proudly displayed on "Antiques Roadshow". I think it's the circa 1950's Rudolph snowglobe that used to be my grandmother's. It was my absolute favorite holiday decoration of hers, and she gave it to me shortly before she and my grandfather moved into senior housing. It's worth virtually nothing - a pristine one on ebay is going for $5.99. This one has a large chip out of the base, the sticker is gone, the fluid inside is evaporating, and I will never, ever let it go.

2. My mother told me no to the graduate and me and the boyfriend went anyway and we also put some spirits in out drinks. Well there was a fire alarm and there we were on the street with booze in our cokes and me sure that my mother was going to catch us! Barry Williams (aka Greg Brady)

2) What was the first R rated movie you ever saw?
Oh lordy I don't know, it was so long ago. I do remember being excited to see "American Gigolo" as it was the first movie showing male frontal nudity and I felt it was way past time for a little equality. Not that you could see anything though...

5) If you have children, what is your favorite book you've read to them out loud?
No kids, but when I babysat my niece and nephew (now in their twenties) I read a fun little book called "Arty the Smarty" about a fish who dared to be different. They both remember it so well. I've promised to bequeath that book to whichever of them has a child first. (I suspect I will be dusting off that book for a long time!)

Beige or yellow, plus some pastels. I'm far too pasty-white for most light shades. Makes me look dead.

12) What is the oldest item you own?
An old mantelpiece from the 1800s. My uncle helped clean out an old hotel in downtown Denver before it was demolished. The workers were told to take whatever they wanted, so he scored big time with the mantel and two antique parlor tables. He gave the items to mom, the family's antique junkie, and she left them to me. I really regret not knowing or remembering the name of the hotel. I've tried to do some research but all the people involved are gone now and I can't seem to discover much on my own.

1) Did you every write anyone fan mail when you were a kid? If so, who?
Not that I can remember.

2) What was the first R rated movie you ever saw?
I'm supposed to remember this? Oh wait.... I think I do know. I had a friend when I was in elementary school whose mother didn't monitor our tv viewing at all and in fact often let us watch totally inappropriate movies along with her. So it was either Howard the Duck or Blue Lagoon. I don't remember which came first.

3) Current guilty pleasure?
Hmm. I could say this homemade cinnamon bread that I'm eating but really that's just breakfast. Probably watching Once Upon A Time and knitting while the kids are napping. Honestly though, I don't feel very guilty about any of my pleasures.

5) If you have children, what is your favorite book you've read to them out loud?
My kids really respond to different kinds of books so I have different favorites for each. To read to my son, any of Robert McCloskey's picture books. I've got a real soft spot for One Morning in Maine and Time of Wonder. To read to my daughter I think my favorites have been the Ramona Quimby books.

6) Worst book you were forced to read in school?
Cannot for the life of me remember although I'm sure there was something I didn't like at the time.

Homemade jam, homemade horseradish mustard, and cheese of one kind or another (usually cheddar and romano and then various others depending on what I'm cooking).

8) What time is bed time?
Between 9 and 10.

9) What was the name of your first pet?
I was born into a family with two pets, a cat named Grayson and a dog named Jason. The first pet acquired when I was old enough to help care for it was a dog named Charlie Brown. The first pet of my very own was a gerbil named Belva that I got for my 7th birthday.

10) Do you give in easily?
Depends on the situation.

11) Is there a color you don't feel comfortable wearing?
I don't look good in anything really pale. Other than that I'll wear pretty much any color, it's just about find the exact right yellow or green or whatever for my coloring.

The one that I think is the oldest would be my grandmother's "knick knack" shelf. I remember it was old (given to her by her aunt?) when I was a little girl. When I visited, I "got" to dust it. It is very intricate and ornate.....silly me - Grandma was a smart cookie! She got her knick knack shelf dusted and only had to give ME a cookie!

The bureau and hutch that belonged to my husband's grandmother (and her father before her)... it used to have a fold-down desktop and drawers inside but the leather was rotted and some of the drawers were lost. We saw one like it on "Antiques Roadshow" that wasn't refinished poorly and it was worth $1,000. Of course, ours has been painted and then refinished poorly so it only has sentimental value. We call it "the grandma hutch."

I totally forgot about "Fox in Socks" by Dr. Seuss! I like to read it aloud with voices -- the character who isn't a fox gets a southern gentleman voice (ala Shelby Foote).

@Janet: Make Way for Ducklings is one my mother loved. I still own a copy, along with many of his other books.

@littlemama: I remember! :) My other favorite sketch was the little boy who was sent to the store for 20 of something. He repeated it all the way... "twenty! twenty! twenty!" and then he got to the store: "I'd like TWENTY, please!" Ooops....

Actual;ly, I do have antique-y stuff in the house, but for some reason I interpreted Q 12 as referring to clothing. I don't know why. The oldest item I own is probably a late 18th century desk from my grandmother. And some really old stamp collections from Germany, in the 1840s.

1) Did you every write anyone fan mail when you were a kid? If so, who?
Never been much of a fan girl. I remember getting teased for not knowing who Scott Baio was. Now we can all answer that question. In the 6th or 7th grade one of our assignments was to write a letter to someone we admired. I cannot not remember who I chose. I'd like to think it was Jimmy Carter, but I think I would have gotten something back if I ever sent it.

2) What was the first R rated movie you ever saw?
When I was about 4 yo, my parents went to the drive-in to see Midnight Cowboy. They thought I would fall asleep in the back, but apparently I bounced around in the car for 2 hours(pre- seat belts) asking "where are the cowboys?" I saw Jaws when I was 9. Still one of my favorites.

Most of my favourite movies were inspired by books. In fact as a girl that was how I found books.

5) If you have children, what is your favorite book you've read to them out loud?
The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear, just in the ubiquitous golden book, stands out.

A couple of years ago she bought me a coffee cup with the illustration on it and tucked it into my christmas stocking...because it was such a lovely memory for her.

It was the first book I ever bought with my own money, in 1973.

Every BAD child in the book gets carried off by scarlett fever and dies.

About midnight. Fall-asleep-on-the-sofa-time is closer to 10pm.

9) What was the name of your first pet?

Erm--not really a pet. When I was small, a coyote adopted me. In Lakota language, coyote is "sungmanitu". It is pronounced shooh-mah-eeh-too, with the terminal h as a nasalized glottal stop that non-speakers have a hard time hearing, I guess. I point this out because many people nowadays believe I have copied my childhood nickname from Kevin Costner's character in that movie he made. Were I a more secure sort, this probably wouldn't bother me.

Yeah. The coyote's name was Judy.

No. I am dogged.

Probably the house my ex-husband lives in. Sigh. I don't know how old my bear claw necklace is, but it might be older than the house. Do fossils count? If so, the oldest item I own is precambrian and snailish.
