I have seen all the movies except for "Hugo" though I read the book years ago. My favorite movie of the year was "Tree of Life" but I know many people didn't like it so I don't expect it has much of a chance. My second favorite movie of the year was "Take Shelter," which was ignored by the Academy--this movie has one of the most beautiful family love/loyalty moments I have ever seen in a film, plus I thought the acting was incredible. I won't be crushed if "Moneyball" or "The Descendents" win. I enjoyed them both.
Most recent film i have seen is 'The Other Bolyen Girl'. What category is that nominated in please?
Trash, I believe that is nominated under the "Antiques Roadshow" category. I liked the movie...back in the day.
Heh heh heh. I live 20 odd miles from the nearest cinema and Netflix has proved a revelation. (Translation for non-small island readers - 20 miles is a looooooong way in the UK and takes best part of an hour on little twiddly country roads.)
I am rooting for The Artist since Jean is one of my secret boyfriends
I have only seen The Help....I am woefully unqualified to render a vote.
Midnight in Paris = AWESOME film, and Clooney deserves an oscar for Descendants :)
I only saw Moneyball, so I guess I vote for it. But how sad is it that I've missed ALL of the others?
I've seen Hugo, The Descendants, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and The Help. I Loved all of them for different reasons, but I think The Descendants was the most real to me and Clooney was amazing! Second runner up? Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud. Tear jerker for sure, but a lovely movie. I <3 Sandra Bullock! Lastly, The Help. I read the book and LOVED it and the movie didn't disappoint. It was perfect!
I have only seen The Help and War Horse. I loved them both. For some reason War Horse has stayed with me, I was very pleased when it received the nomination. The Artist will probably win, though.
I've seen half of the movies so far. I like The Descendents the best. Tree of Life was beautiful, but there were issues that I struggled with in the movie.
Planning to see Hugo tonight. I also highly recommend Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, for which Gary Goldman was nominated for best actor.
I think I live in a cave. I have not seen ANY of these. Sigh.
I haven't seen any of these movies. If it isn't animated or doesn't feature farting, I don't get the opportunity to partake. But with 3 films featuring 2 of Mrs. G.'s secret husbands, how can we go wrong?
I've seen all the films except for Hugo. I loved The Artist the most and think it should win, although Helena Bonham Carter's performance in Midnight in Paris was wonderful to watch also. I was surprised that Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy wasn't nominated - a great film all round and a stellar performance by Gary Oldman.
You aren't alone, navhelowife. Last time I went out to see a movie, was New Year's Eve, 2010. I watch movies when they come out on cable... if the tv's are free; and then I'm folding laundry or trying to catch up on something around the house at the same time. There's something wrong with this picture. But I'm so glad to see Billy Crystal again!
Only saw Hugo, as I'm in the cave next to Navhelowife. Probably get around to most of them by the 2014 Oscars.
I was lucky this year. Most of them are now On Demand on my television and I caught them over the last few weekend. If it makes you feel any better, I haven't put a new song on my five-year-old iPod. It only holds 200 songs and I don't like change.
i only saw Extremely Close and Incredibly Loud, and it was a lovely movie. i look forward to the oscars every year.
I am rooting everything for The Help in any catagory. The two lead women were interviewed by Oprah and they are incredible amazing women, especially Viola. She also interviewed Jason Hill who was in Money Ball as the young accountant(best supporting actor). He has got to be one of the sweetest, nicest down to earth young men to come around in a long time. He introduced his parents to Oprah and you could see how proud they are of him and he was so excited to let them meet her. He hugged and kissed both his mom and dad on live television. That says's something!!
Your husband George should win , but "incredibly, extremely" was one of those movies that grabs your heart. Maybe because I live in an area that felt the loss of so many that day and the aftermath of lives interrupted, some close to us. Not sure why but that movie will be with me for years and isn't that what a GREAT film is supposed to do? War Horse for cinamatography, it was amazing to watch, but story line was hokey at best. Haven't seen The Artist, and Midnight in Paris was fun, but another Woody Allen we are all neurotic and disfunctional movie. Have to admit the present day scenes were unbearable, kept wishing he would go back in time! Will wait for Hugo on the tube, but hear good things. Guess it's anyone's game!!!
The silent film buff in me is voting for The Artist.
Like Late, I have only seen Moneyball. It was good, but I suspect something else will win. Hey, how come there were no Johnny Depp movies nominated?!?
My husbands uncle is the art director for The Artist so of course we all hope that wins. I havent seen any of the movies(not even The Artist),I better get on that!
I haven't seen any of these movies. They aren't on dvd yet. I never see movies in the theater anymore. The last theater I went to was so dirty, sticky, and downright gross. I think there were only two people working at it.
Hmm, what happened to my comment? Oh well - I've seen The Descendents, The Artist, Moneyball, The Help. Loved The Artist and the Descendents.
Only saw The Help this year--which is actually an improvement over other years when I haven't seen any of the movies. I guess I'll vote for that one by default, but I did like how they kept the movie pretty similar to the book. I hate how usually that isn't the case and the movie butchers the story.
Let me put it this way, vis a vis Midnight in Paris: I am doing my DAMNEDEST to own and WEAR Owen Wilson's outfits. I have studied the subject super carefully, the chinos, the thick belt, the shirts, etc, and GAWDAMNT those outfits deserve an Oscar....do you gals care about this or is it only me, the lone weirdo dude? Owen can come over for beers and nachos anytime, believe me :) Well, George too, LOVE that guy.
I usually get to the movies once a year and this year it was The Help.
The day I saw "Tree of Life" was the day I paid for my nap.
I'm in that cave with navhelowife and a few others.
I haven't seen any of the oscar nominated films, but my husband and I did get to FINALLY get out and see the nominated animated shorts. I'm rooting for The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Seriously ladies, if you can find a way to watch, DO. Make sure to have some tissues nearby.
Also, is anyone as excited as I am that Billy Crystal is hosting again? OMG OMG!
i'm with AmyG....if it's not animation/about farting or other weird noises/really bad japanese anime/really good japanese anime.....yeah. it's a big cave i'm in!!!
my friend was raving about The Actor.....i'm just hoping that on the airplane coming and going there are good movies!!!
i'll be more able to vote on dresses and outfits.
LOVED the Descendants. Just loved it. Scenes keep coming back to me, every one perfect. Plus George. {sigh} I haven't seen most of them, because we usually wait 'til Netflix.
I have seen them all except for Extremely Loud...
I have to say that Hugo moved me the most and was so incredibly creative and a powerful escape on an afternoon that I loved it more than any other film. Hugo all the way.
