Mrs. G. hopes you are happy, because Mr. G. is.

Siamesecat

Mrs. G. had to quit reading your comments only twenty in. Frankly, she and her Siamese cat couldn't bear the bludgeoning:

"...it's time to find that cat another home. Maybe in another house."

" It's an ugly cat. The nose is too long and the eyes look lifeless to me. If it were me, I would get that thing far, far away from me."

"Mr. G is a saint to have endured for six years. Time to give him a break."

"Mr.G has done his penance, ditch Kitty Gigantica! Maybe you can trot this 'lovely' out for Halloween or Cinco de Mayo parties?!!!"

Mrs. G. doubts you'll believe her, but she thinks she saw the cat weeping actual tears in the dark of night.

But, really, don't sweat it. It's only potentially invaluable folk art a painting.

But a deal is a deal. The cat painting goes, hopefully along with the smirk on Mr. G's face. He feels vindicated, and Mrs. G. will only have to hear about it for the next twenty years. Thanks for that.

One reader, Bethany, recognized Mrs. G's attachment to this large Siamese cat and reached out. She sent Mrs. G. the following so that, despite it's absence from her home, the cat could be commemorated in some small but meaningful way.

Thanks Bethany.

The rest of you will just have to live with yourselves.

Oh my gosh, would my one vote have counted? I guess I'll never know....that cat is terrific, and I have a needlepoint pillow that I think is it's long lost partner in interior design awesomeness.

Poor kitty.

Oh, Mrs. G! You really should skim through the rest of the comments. Some of us posted late (like this morning). And there were a number of votes for this folk art kitty. Our gentle suggestion was to give Mr. G's sleep a break from being watched. Because we are compassionate like that. (Well, except for the person who humorously suggested taking a photograph, making multiple copies, and slipping them into places where Mr. G would suddenly come across them. ROTFLMBO
One person even voted to make the cat our Women's Colony mascot! So you are NOT alone. ♥

If you love the picture, and you have said that you do, then please don't get rid of it!

PS: I do see a tear forming in the kitty's right eye...

December 1, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterkcinnova

I really, truly want to see the cat on the official masthead. Come on!

December 1, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCari

WAH! I loved the painting and I hate cats.
It struck me as the right balance of oddly compelling and just plain odd. I think I will never be able to attend an estate sale again without looking for it.
Please put it in the masthead.
Pretty please.

December 1, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterfrantically heidi

On the masthead is perfect. Perfect! I didn't comment before, but in some odd fashion I liked kitty. Don't throw her out, just put her in your office, or perk up your laundry room!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGretel

No. No. No! Not the scarey kitty in the masthead . Please nooooooooo. Perhaps a nice safe place somewhere warm? I have heard cats like the warm. You have a garage, right?

Just a quick point though, in case Mr. G is wondering as he signs the cheque, trashalou is spelled without capitals....

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertrashalou

Bethany is brilliant.

Poor kittty. Too bad your kids are too old for a Time Out corner. Kitty would have been a disturbing...but effective addition whilst pulling sentry duty. That said, I wouldn't want my suggestion to have made me liable for any psychiatric bills that might result. No offense, kitty.

Sorta has REGIFT written all over it, doesn't it?

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commentergary

This is a nice thing you're doing for Mr. G. :-)

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJen on the Edge

I love the kitteh! Does this mean you have to get rid of the painting, or can you just move it to somewhere else in your home? How about an awesome WC giveaway?!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKelley

cat on masthead! Bethany rocks. Pleeeeeeeze do it...

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWendy

I'm sorry for your loss, Mrs. G. It's true I did not love the cat painting, but I think she makes a great guard kitteh for the colony.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJenni in KS

I feel like a total heel now for my comment. Sorry I suggested Mr. G. burn him in the charcoal grill. He looks great on the masthead, and we'll get to enjoy him everyday. Before it was just you and Mr. G, now the whole world has gotten to see him and he'll live forever in our hearts. Ok now I feel better.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterd

It can't go away completely! Tell me it's getting pride of place somewhere else.

Perhaps you had stopped reading by this time but someone suggested that you take polaroids (many polaroids) of the painting and, after re-hanging the actual painting in another part of the house, you could leave the polaroids in different places for Mr. G. Say, on his pillow, or under the visor in his car or in his underwear drawer. She felt, I think though I may be projecting, that this sort of caring act would ease the pain of loss for him. Or you, maybe it would ease it for you, I can't remember.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKizz

Now, now, you do have to read my comment - I gave you a perfectly good way to keep tormenting your husband with that cat's visage.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersuburbancorrespondent

I love the kitty on the masthead!! Although, I hated the actual painting; it's just that this kitty is now an inside joke for colonists. Keep her there, giving us the evil eye as we surf the Colony!
I totally picture her glaring at me in disapproval as I have impure thoughts about the Cabana Boy of the day.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterCarolina

I made the first comment about Kittyand I hope you remember that I have been coming to and commenting for a long time (long before the colony) so I hope you know I think you seem like a really great gal, a fantastic mother and one hell of a great comedy writer but I am disappointed that you caved. Frankly it kind of offended me for you that all the "art critics" said such nasty things about the painting. Sure it might not be their taste but come on you loved it and it spoke to you so that is good enough for me. After all you are the one that has brought us so much sidespliting humor and if it wasn't for you their wouldn't even be a WC ( where so many can pimp their blogs).
Yes I"d probably remove the painting from the bedroom if it is causing Mr, G sleepless nights but if it was me I 'd move the painting not to some cozy corner so you can quietly admire it but instead put it out front and center in plain sight so everyone that comes to your house could see it. The fact that you love it only speaks of your big heart and ability to see beauty in the quirky.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermargaret/Who asked you?

Well played, Mrs. G.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGreen Girl in Wisconsin

Well I'm sorry for your broken heart, even if I was one of the ones who voted "down with kitty." I think it's a great idea to take a picture of it and use it as your desktop background. Or you could print out a small version of it and frame it. If you take it outside where there's lots of light, you can avoid that flash glare so you'll have a good print.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAmyBean

I want to see kitty daily on the masthead!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBecky

I vote for the kitty on the masthead, the perfect addition of quirkiness!!
Keep it there, please!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWisconsinWitch

In my first comment I thought he looked like he was peering through a window.....a peeping Tom cat, if you will. Your final resting place for him is perfect, just place him a little more to the left, under the tree, to increase that very effect.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterElaine

Well, I like the kitty and I hope you haven't trashed the painting. It should be hung somewhere where you can still enjoy it.
I think it's the soul of the kitty it was painted of, so keep it alive!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterknittergran

Well, Mrs. G, perhaps this will improve your ... um, bedroom life? Not that it needs improving, it's just that with that thing staring at me, I might be a bit inhibited. And I am a serious fan of cats. I even had my kitchen decorated with all kinds of funky cat things before I got married. My dh made me loose it all when we moved in together.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKara

Another vote for 'Kitteh' on the masthead...this way the entire world can enjoy your cat...

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLinda G (no relation)

Wrap that puppy up and give it away at your next gift exchange!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRenee in Seattle

Mrs G- You know I mean you no harm when I told you the cat had to go, it WAS weird.
But I am the type of person who will also not let you return to the table with toilet paper on your shoe, your skirt stuck up in the back of your pantyhose, or leave spinach stuck on your front tooth.
I will also tell you (but only if asked) if your ass does indeed look fat in THOSE pants. That's the kind of friend I am so .. forgive me, you asked!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbramble

That cat actually looks better hiding in the bushes of the masthead.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBrightside Susan

This is the funniest thing I have read all week! Thank you!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJessie

I wanted the kitty as mascot, but I accept just having her on the top banner, put Melanie to work pronto!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterElleM

oh the poor kitty! I would have commented yesterday had I thought that kitty's presence in your home was threatened! I loooove the masthead idea!! Long live the Kitty!! Yah!!!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commenternancy

You're most welcome :) It was entirely too fun to do. Long live kitty!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterbethany

Mrs. G,

Just pair kitty with some Elvi on black velvet and kitsch paintings of Island maidens and people will be applauding your sly Post Modern Irony.

But seriously, anything Mrs. G does or owns instantly becomes cool by association. At least at The Colony.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLisa Paul

Brava for you Mrs. G. You're a good spot.

I think the kitty is perfect on the masthead.

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterg

Oops. I meant "good SPORT".

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterg

I love the masthead idea too!

December 2, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterDebbie J

yes yes, please Mrs. G, let's keep the cat as official mascot! and place him on the masthead, oh i laugh everytime i look at it, bethany, that was the funniest idea!

December 3, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterjardinera linda

I like it. How about in the laundry room?
If you have one, that is.
